ABOUT

This blog describes my adventures in Africa. In 2018, this will be my 4th trip to Africa. I traveled to Rwanda in March 2016, and Kenya and Tanzania in the Spring, 2015, and Kenya in 2010. On our journey, we'll be visiting schools, centers for people with disabilities, making friends, looking for animals and finding adventure wherever we go. Wahoo!!!!

Awesome Today

I learned today in real life that giraffes have blue tongues, they are 2 feet long and they like to lick noses...

And it's a true fact that elephants have 2 foot long ears.
And they like soccer balls

We went to the elephant orphanage today.  Mostly all of them lost their moms, who died, because hunters (poachers) wanted to take their ivory tusks.  This baby elephant lost her tail and part of her private parts from hyenas.

so do you remember the post "Giraffes have blue tongues and other interesting facts about animals like him?"(look at that post and look at the ostrich) We saw a real ostrich that doesn't look like Dracula

I could not sleep last night.  hopefully tonite will be better.

kuahari!!!

Wow Day

Today I slept in A LOT.  In fact, my mom went down to breakfast so I had to call her on the radio. Breakfast was GOOD.  So... today I went to a place called The Action Foundation (TAF). TAF is a place for children with disabilities.  We met a boy named Evan who had a condition called Cerebral Palsy (CP).  If you have CP your muscles don't work properly and your arms and legs are sort of stuck in a way that makes it hard to walk or pick up stuff.......................................see

(I bet thats why he was playing legos and had crutches)
This is Evan. (non sequitur here)

Here we are in Kibera - the largest slum in Africa (maybe the world).

Here are people we met from Akili Dada - this is my mom's favorite organization.  You can learn about them here.

Done for the day so I can finish my banana cream pie.

You will be reading this at midnight here.

Hello - this is Finn here. Today I want to talk about travel!!!!.   It will take 5 planes to get from here to there.  Yesterday I flew 1 hour and 20 minutes.  Today I have 4 more flights, and this is how long it will take: (flight 1)  2 hrs and 23 minutes; (flight 2) 2 hours 10 minutes; (flight 3) 8hours; ( flight 4) 7 hours 40 minutes.  How many minutes?  Can you add it up?
Here we are at the beginning....

Here we are in the middle.....

Here we are at the end... We made it!!!
Did you know that at 37,000 feet above sea level (where our plane was flying) that it is -80 F?  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Here's a view

We made it and now we are going to sleep!

Tanzania Facts

1.  Tanzania is about two times the size of California.
2.  There's a lake in Tanzania that turns animals into stone. Here is a what a bat looks like...

calcified bat
They actually don't turn into stone it just looks like it.  It has to do with their habitat, so when they move to Lake Natron they aren't used to the new habitat and when they die, their bodies become calcified.

3.  The country of Tanzania has 48 Million people, half of them are younger than 15 years old!!!!!.  It is ranked:  27th in the WORLD!!!!!!
4.  Tanzania has the largest concentration of animals in Africa.  I hope we see this:

5.  This is the Tanzanian flag.

Kwaheri!  Have a good rest of the week...

Kenya Facts, Seasons, And Other Things I've Learned About Kenya

Did you know that the world's 47th largest country is Kenya, and it is about as big as Texas?  My Aunt Mara lives in Texas, so it's kind of like she lives in Kenya, but not really.

The population of Kenya is about 44 million people, the population in the Unites States is about 318.9 million, the population of Texas is only 26.96 million.  That means WAY more people are in Kenya than Texas.
This is the Kenyan flag. Isn't it cool - I like the design.

In Kenya, there are only 2 seasons, wet and dry.  This is way too bad because we are going there in the rainy season, called the monsoon.  But there is also a dry season.  At least it's still warm.  Here's a picture of the monsoon.  I hope we don't get caught in this... but if we do, we can go swimming!!!!!!

This is the Chalbi Desert in Northern Kenya - we are going here.  Hopefully it does not rain here.  I might find a lion or a tiger here - hopefully we do!!! That would be really cool. Do you see a lion or tiger in the picture?
Ok i'm done for now. Have a good day!! Goodbye in Swahili is kwaheri, so "kwaheri!!"

Giraffes Have Blue Tongues and other interesting facts about animals like him....

Giraffes have blue tongues which can be up to 2 feet long.

Ostriches are surprisingly fast runners - they can run up to 43 mph.

                               Here is a real ostrich.

Here is one that looks like Count Dracula-and looks SCARY!!!PS not really.

One of the most deadly animals in Africa is the vegetarian hippo.  Which means it only eats fruits and vegetables.  Every day, hippos eat close to 100 pounds of grass a day and their poop weighs 60 pounds, which is 4.4 pounds more than I weigh.  (My mom made a joke about a hippo pooping me out, but I think she should explain it).  Anyways, That's COOL....
