ABOUT

This blog describes my adventures in Africa. In 2018, this will be my 4th trip to Africa. I traveled to Rwanda in March 2016, and Kenya and Tanzania in the Spring, 2015, and Kenya in 2010. On our journey, we'll be visiting schools, centers for people with disabilities, making friends, looking for animals and finding adventure wherever we go. Wahoo!!!!

Chalbi Desert Hurts

APRIL 3

Hello,Yesterday ouch, ouch, ouch i stabbed 7 thorns on my left foot and i stabbed 1 thorn on my right foot(it is kinda funny the one that looks like nothing hearts the most).

Do you see what Goyu is holding in his hand?  Boys - isn't that awesome!!!!! He is Chachu's body guard.  Chachu is Issacko's dad, a member of the Kenya government.

We are now in a place called the Wild North.( it’s also called the chalbi desert)  it took us over 10 hours to drive here.  it’s super hot here and they don’t HAVE ANY FANS!!!!!!!

We visited schools all day and it was pretty cool except when they sang their songs you had no idea what they were saying.  But the singing was pretty good - here are some samples (mom could not get the music to play so I'll play it when we are back).  We went to a girls primary school, boys secondary school (high school) and girls secondary school.  Lots of singing and dancing.
it is very very very vvveeerrryyy very hot, dry and desolate where we are.
Kwaher!!

  1. Hi Fin!
We are curious about Goyu. Why does Chachu need a bodyguard? It was hard for us to see what was in Goyu's hand. Was that a gun?
Grady wants to know if you made that bow, or did they have it there?
Hey Finn, let's sing every day when we begin our reading group!
It has been great to hear from you. Now come home!

    1. Chachu needs a bodyguard because he is a very famous man and not everyone likes him. Goyu carries a huge gun and he was playing soccer with us in the pictures. A samburu wariior made the gun for me. I'll be back in a week!!!!!!!

  4. The singing is really great, and the girls seemed to be having lots of fun dancing along. Are their sashes holding medals or badges showing some special achievements? We had something sort of like that at Grandma's school many years ago.
Playing soccer while carrying a gun is a new idea. We hope you don't have to do that at home. Check with your coach to be sure. :)
    Love, Grandpa and Grandma
